100,000!

Rockquina has hit the big 100,000 today! It happened at exactly 5:00pm at the intersection of North Central Ave and Highway 11w (where the Mountaineer is at) in Church Hill! I was listening to Rocky Top at the time and on my way home from school! I love my Rockquina! Cheers to another 100,000!

Breaking News from France!

Things are not looking good for Chirac and his European Union. News straight out of Paris indicate that French voters yesterday turned down the resolution to accept the EU constitution. Media reports are saying that nearly 55% of voters have voted down the document. This means that years of debate and diplomatic fighting has come down to this. According to rules set forth by the writers if any member state turns down the constitution, the whole thing will not become law and things have to start all over again. This is definitely not good news for Chirac. This definitely shows his lack of leadership and his lack of an ability to connect with the French people and their true desires. Some are even calling on him to resign to and dissolve the government. Film editor Emmanuel Zelez had to say this about his no vote on the constitution, "I voted 'no' because the text is very difficult to understand. Also, I'm afraid for democracy. The way the EU functions is very opaque. Many people there are not directly elected." The head of the Chirac's party called the vote on Sunday a "a major political event." Oh really? I do believe people still enjoy democracy and are actually willing to fight for it. Thanks for stating the obvious The Dutch are suppose to vote on the constitution on Wednesday with polls indicating that 60% oppose the measure as well. My bets it that the Dutch definitely vote against it now that the French have. It will certainly be interesting to see what the EU leadership do now. They are saying that votes in other countries will continue on despite this no vote in France that is suppose to stop the document from becoming legal. I feel that they might find some loophole to get this passed anyway despite this majority opposition in France. Things certainly are not looking good though for our friend Chirac. That's definitely for sure. He might have to share a room with his friend Schroeder at the retirement home. Click here for more from Yahoo News.

My Rockquina

Well, my baby is aging. Yes, my Honda CRV is hitting a milestone; she is about to turn the 100,000 mile! But this is no ordinary CRV, this is my Rockquina (pronounced Rock-ke-na)! Yes, many, many memories! Although, I haven't had her for most of these miles; my friends and I have spent much quality time with her. Singing Rocky Top at the top of our lungs on the way back from putt-putt and McDonalds. Late night movies at the dam. Eating delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts after rocking at a great concert. Many trips to and from Dollywood. Fooling people that were following me for directions then accidently leading them onto a high school track in Knoxville. So many memories that would take forever to share! So many good times have been spent with Rockquina and my friends! If you have any memories that you would like to share (I know there are at least a few!), share them with me by leaving a comment or emailing me. Stay tuned for when my Rockquina hits the big one!

Codename "Tennessee Waltz"

"I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darlin' the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz"

Do you smell that? *sniff loudly* It's the sweet aroma of justice! Yes, 2 Senators, 1 Representative, 1 former Senator, and 2 losers were arrested yesterday by the FBI on charges of accepting bribes from undercover agents. Could this be the start of good things to come? Only time will time, but it is definitley for sure that reform is needed! I think yesterday's arrests at the capitol in Nashville certainly proved that Tennessee's government is indeed corrupt! I don't know why Memphis trusts these people! Three of the arrests were legislatures from the Big-M! Well, The Tennessean has much more detailed info.

Carrie Is Your American Idol!

America votes and Carrie wins! The finale last night was simple amazing! Not only did Carrie's dreams come true, but many others did too. The audition of a woman that "attempted" the national anthem in Washington was featured on the main screen then mid-way through the audition, she popped out as the screen split in half and finished her song at the Kodak. Two "cool" people that formed a friendship at one of the auditions (one that looks scarely like our SGA president on campus) told each other that it would be cool that they would be together at the finale episode, but they were not even allowed to Hollywood. Last night, they were brought together at the finale and one of them got a surprise meeting with his idol David Hasselhoff. Also, each of the finalists got to sing a song with their own idols, such as Kenny G, Rascal Flatts, and Lynrd Skinard (sp?). I thought one of the funniest moments was the obvious crack at ABC's Primetime Live on the Paula controversy with their own "Crimetime Live" report on Simon's affair with himself. Carrie was ultimately crowned the season 4 American Idol! Simon did predict her victory at the beginning; I must say he usually is honest though sometimes bitterly mean. She won a record contract, a new car, and use of her own private jet. She certainly will be livin' it up! Carrie concluded the night in an emotional singing of her soon to be single cd, "Inside Your Heaven."

Are You Reading, Bush?

Wow, that's what I said in response to this article from AP (click here to read). Apparently, President Bush is pushing for hydrogen power for the nation's next generation of vehicles. I really can't believe it, but he is actually committing a billion dollars to research this new technology; some would say this isn't enough. But I would say that small, baby steps is a start that will move us far. I say good job, Bush! I knew I could count on you! I just can't believe that only a few days after my critique of Bush and his environmental policies he visits the nation's first hydrogen fueling station. Could he be reading and taking my advice? Who knows? *shifting eyes*

CARRIE WINS!!!!

In an emotional charged night filled with many fulfilled dreams, Carrie Underwood is chosen as the next American Idol!! I knew she would do it!! You carried me away, Carrie!

Here Comes Festus!

The event that Kingsportians live and die for: Fun Fest. Yesterday at noon, Fun Fest organizers held a press conference and announced this year's logo design and performers at the popular "stadium concerts." Apparently, there are gonna be some pretty good shows for this year's 25 anniversary celebration. The much popular AFG concert will have some top country performers; this year Trace Adkins and Billy Currington will be headlining. The Friday-night Beach Party will feature Collective Soul and Edwin McCain (?? sorry but I have no idea who these people are ??). The final-night Eastman Concert will headline Travis Tritt. Looks like organizers went all out this year trying to get some top concerts for this 25th year. Obviously, it has come with a price though. For the first time ever, organizers are begging the community for money; this year they have started the "Friends of Festus" program. People who donate $100-$200 get some special benefits, such as free tickets, reserved parking, and reserved seating at the stadium concerts. Sounds interesting. I just want to see how successful this Fun Fest fund is. It would be nice if it went well because that would mean bigger & better events in the future. Organizers have also announced some new events this year. There will be a tomato contest, a "Pedal, Paddle, Skedaddle Triathlon," and a Global Fest featuring the ethnic groups of Kingsport (which is mostly Chinese & Japanese restaurants featuring all-you-can-eat buffets). I am really interested to see the triathlon; the Crazy 8s race is always extremely popular so it will be interesting to see if this event prospers. A big change this year is with the tremendously popular AFG Treasure Hunt (click the link to read my AFG adventure last year). Apparently, AFG has dropped their sponsorship and Pal's has taken its place. It will now be called the Pal's Treasure Quest with new prizes of $2500 and $100,000 instead of a trip to Disney World. Fun Fest organizers also revealed this year's design of the very popular Fun Fest tshirt. Looks like this year's design will be nice and not funky like last year. This year's shirt will also be available at Food City in addition to the traditional Fun Fest Store in the mall. I am disappointed, however, that they still have brought back Ice Cream at Allandale; I was really hoping they would bring it back for the 25th anniversary, but I guess not. Sadness. Oh well, looks like this year's Fun Fest holds much promise.

American Idol Final Performances

American Idol starts the concluding episodes tonight at 8. The question is: who will be next? Will it be Bo or Carrie? This season has certainly been filled with utter disgust, or at least for me. I still can't believe that Scott made it so far! Isn't this encouraging that a wife beater makes it farther than a music teacher that just wants to make the world a better place with music. I don't what was wrong with America. Who can seriously say that Scott was a great performer and actually deserved to make it so far in the competition?! What about Anwar, Nadia, & Constantine? They were great performers! What happened to them? Voted off much earlier than they should have been. I must admit that Anwar started to grow gradually worse, but he was still great! He was certainly better than Scott!! I think tonight could be very interesting. It should be a very tight vote between Bo & Carrie. Both have done well throughout the competition. I say many tonight will have a hard time making up their minds. It will all come down to how well they do with tonight's song selections. It should certainly be interesting! I know who I will be rooting for: my woman Carrie! I really doubt that Bo will be able to win over my vote tonight, but we'll just have to wait and see. Tune into the blog tonight for updates from me! I'm going live, baby! I will add my thoughts and rambles throughout tonight's episode.

Experimenting

Yes, I have been experimenting with my facial hair. First it started out were I shaved only every 2 or 3 days so I was scruffy most of the time. Then it got to where I just let it grow out for a week or more. Now I am at a point where I shave only to leave a goatee type thing on my face. I not really sure if I like it or not. Others tell me that it looks good on me and that it makes me look older. Hum. Not sure what to do. I'll hang on to it for a while and see if it grows on me. If you really wanted to know.

Oh no, Schroeder!

Looks like Mr. Schroeder is in trouble. Click here. Well deserved, I must say!

The Open Bible

According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. -Philippians 1:20, Click here for other versions

Today's message at my church was one that every Christian should know and understand. The preacher focused on this passage from Philippians 1:20. Every where we walk, everything we say, every action we take is being watched. Non-believers watch every move that we make; they want to know what this thing called Christianity really is. Your neighbors probably know your church-going habits more than your pastor. When we (Christians) mess up, non-believers see it and take it to heart. When we criticize someone else, they see it. When we say that word that isn't the cleanest to human standards, they see it. When we yell at others, they see it. When we have relationships that enter the physical realm, they see it. When we look over the unfortunate, they see it. The non-believers see everything that is against God's word. What do you think this does to them? Do you think that this encourages their conversion? Do you really think this brings them closer to God? Certainly not! When we do such things, we just drive them farther and farther away from our Lord and Savior. They start to believe that we are just a bunch of phoneys. We need to take our Christian title seriously! We are the only Bible that some see. When we go against God's word, this puts much doubt in the minds of the world. It is time that actually act "Christ-like." We need to be forgiving, we need to treat others with respect, we need to be earnest with our relationship with Christ, we need to stop acting so high and mighty. We need to be a great Bible for others; we need to show others what this religion is really about. We need to show the love and faith that is the foundation of our religion, not the hate and bitterness.

Yabba-Dabba-Dead

Sadly, the last voice of Fred Flintstone has died. Henry Corden passed away last Thrusday from emphysema. I didn't know this but Corden is actually the second voice of Fred; the original voice died in 1977 and Corden has taken the duty since then. His voice can also be heard in other Hanna-Barbera cartoons, such as one of my favorites Jonny Quest. His most recent works can be heard in those crazy cereal commercials with Fred & Barney. Sadness. You're Hired!

CONGRATULATIONS KENDRA!

Well, I'm a tad disappointed. Sorry, Tana! You did start acting a little freaky during the final episode. Although, Kendra does scare me a tad (the way she looks at people and wobbles her head). I just feel sorry for Trump getting stuck with two bad choices. At least I found out that I'm not wasting my time at college with "Book Smarts" winning.

Feeling Bushy

(Let me first state that I voted for Bush in the 2004 election, and I am still proud of that fact! It should not be misunderstood that I don't like Bush; I just don't approve of his job performance on this certain aspect.) Beautiful birds flying overhead. The sweet smell of pine from the forest. The clear water from the river. Rabbits jumping through the fields. Oil gushing in the lake. Forests chopped down for lumber. Smog blocking our view of the mountains. This is the kind of environment that we can expect from President Bush. For some reason, he is not the best on environmental issues. This is one sticking point that I don't like about Bush (other issues are of more importance to me that's why I support our President). I really don't think that we can afford much more damage to our much fragile environment. After the 70s, much progress was made with mother earth, but things have been reversing lately. Things are not improving; things are more likely getting worse. When Bush pulled the nation out of the Kyoto protocol; I was fine with that. Our nation shouldn't have to go into economic shock to please the world. However, I do not support his plan that replaces Kyoto. For some reason, he thinks that American industries will reduce emissions without any government intervention (except tax breaks). Are you serious?! What factory would spend millions to reduce their dangerour emissions? Firms are hungry; they are hungry for profit. Do you really think that a firm that is trying to maximize their profit would waste millions of dollars on cleaning up their act? Certainly not. According to their ideas, that's not a way to stay in business. Of course they will not reduce their pollution without government intervention. Any person with a basic business sense would tell you that. Also, I'm not sure about this drilling in Alaska. Do you really think that this small piece of land would have enough oil to supply our fuel-hungry SUVs? Sure this would provide some temporary relief, but what will we do once it runs dry? What then? We need long-term protection for our environment. It is time that we treat our home with decency. We need to show that we really care for our environment. God gave us this wonderful gift of Earth; shouldn't we treat his gift with love and respect?

Kudzu Krazy

I guess I'm weird, but I enjoy that Southern delight of kudzu! According to CNN, it is a common pest among many individuals below the Mason-Dixon. I don't know what it is about it, but I just love to see kudzu! It is such a beautiful plant! CNN is reporting that there is more than beauty to this gift from God. A recent study is showing that kudzu might actually help prevent binge drinking. According to researcher Scott Lukas, kudzu helps speed up drunkenness and, in turn, prevents so much beer from being consumed. That's quite amazing! Parents, be sure to sneak a little kudzu in your kid's food! Maybe they will starting serving "Kudzu Delight" in our cafeteria next year! Click here to read the article.

Death for $2

Well, the some of the great people of the state of Tennessee are highlighted in the national news once again. People from around this area are familiar with the terrible accident that occurred over a year ago were a woman just wanting to have a nice holiday (vacation) with her family was sent to her death after getting on one of the many tacky carnival rides that comprise of the foothills of the Smokies. Evidently, this amusement park manager (or so I hear) made some safety adjustments so that he could operate his ride more, which would equal more profit. This safety adjustment of his resulted in a woman falling to her death even though the park manager had warnings to be more careful (including a man complaining that his safety bar got loose and nearly fell off). Well, this guy was charged with second-degree murder. I just found out through Yahoo! News that he was freed of that charge but was convicted of reckless homicide. Was a murder charge appropriate? Evidently the jury didn't think so, but I'm not sure myself. This man definitely did not show any respect to life; he was only driven by his desire to increase the size of his pocketbook. Maybe a murder charge would have told other amusement park operators that we are serious about our safety when we go out to have fun. I know that sounds a bit sever, but these managers need to understand that profit should not be the sole driving force in business decisions. Maybe the welfare of others should come first. WOW! Isn't that a novel idea?! Now, you need to head over to South Knox Bubba and enjoy his "Smoky Mountain Experience" tour of this vacation mecca. Locals will certainly enjoy this one! (click here)

Farewell Carson-Newman (for now)

It is so hard to believe but the end of my year in college has came to an end. Seems like yesterday that I just moved into my dorm and met my new roommate. Last Wednesday, I shook hands in farewell to my roommate, packed all my belonging into bags and boxes, and sadly emptied the room that had been the epicenter of late nighters, Taco Bell 1am meals, and reality television. Wow, such good times have to come to an end. When I started this year, I was scared to death. I was so afraid that I would never find anyone to hang out with and that I would be stuck in my room doing homework to pass the time. God has different plans for me; He knew that this would not happen. He had a special group of friends ready for me - I just didn't know it. I can't believe all the good times: founding the Isle of Heron, Amazing Race finales, Krispy Kreme visits, our own Amazing Race, and many great visits to the dam. Now that all has came to a temporary stop for summer. I will certainly miss the many great friends that I have made, which I didn't expect hearing myself say. I thought that I would be ready to leave by the end of the year, but I have found myself in a much different story. I can only give God the glory for the many great times that He has given me and the strength to accomplish much this year. Thank you Carson-Newman family for your kind words, smiling face, and good times. I greatly appreciate everyone's friendship; I can't thank you enough!

TAR7: An Amazing End to an Amazing Season

Uchenna & Joyce are the official winner of the seventh season of the Amazing Race! I can't be more than excited about the end of this race! This married couple certainly proved themselves in the concluding episode. They started out great and pulled themselves far ahead of the other teams, including Survivors Rob & Amber. Then, they got a flat tire while in a heated taxi race with the other two teams. They were the last to arrive at the pit stop. Thankfully, it was a non-elimination leg. They were saved from sequesterville, but they did have all of their belongings and money taken from them. The other teams got hours ahead of them, but the two were once again saved. When they arrived at one of the locations late at night, they discovered that the place was closed until the morning, which put all of them on an equal playing field. They were once again in a neck-to-neck race through the final leg of the race. Rob & Amber got ahead of the other teams while at the airport to fly to the final city of Miami. They got on a flight by stand-by that would basically guarantee them victory since it would arrive hours before the other two teams. When Uchenna & Joyce arrive at the boarding area, the walkway was already being drawn in and the attendants told them that they couldn't get on. They pleaded their life to them to get on that flight. Another intervention. The attendants decide to call the pilot and ask what he wants to do. All of a sudden the walkway is extended back to the plane, and they are allowed on. You can only imagine the faces on Rob & Amber when they saw Uchenna & Joyce. When in Miami, Uchenna & Joyce get another upper hand when they are able to find the Cuban cigar shop much quicker. Another dramatic scene takes place though when they are at the finish line with the taxi but do not have enough money to pay the driver. They beg everyone for $40 to pay and finally after pleading their life and losing space between Rob & Amber, they get enough money and make their way to the mat. There, everyone is saying "please, let it be Uchenna & Joyce." When they arrive, the other teams are so excited to see them! It was such an emotional ending and a much deserved win. Uchenna & Joyce certainly did deserve to win the million. They proved themselves throughout the race (especially the the Joyce's hair cut in India and the money problem in Jamaica). They were always great with each other and the other teams. These common, ordinary people showed the greatness they could accomplish. Even though I didn't want Rob & Amber to win, I did enjoy their presence since they added much drama to the race. This season, even though short, was certainly an awesome one! Finally we have a season that is free of models! I've always hated that aspect. Another great thing about this race was the constant drama and competition between the racers! Who will ever forget the neck-to-neck footrace in Africa between the brothers and Ray & Deana? Who will ever forget the old couple that made it to the final four? Quite an Amazing season!

Finals Week: Spring 05

5 OF 5 FINALS COMPLETE!

The semester (and year) has now come to a close! All finals are done and over with! So exciting! Sociology was so simple this morning; I only had one chapter of material on the final exam. (I heart Dr. Dalton) I am even more excited now because I just checked my grades and discovered that I got As in my two hardest classes! Woot, woot! So exciting! Now time to go pack up (fun fun!). Stay tuned for a TAR7 finale post and final remarks regarding this first year of my college career.

TAR7 Wraps Up Tonight!

SEASON 7 FINALE!

TONIGHT @ 9

Wow, such a great season of the Amazing Race! Many twists & turns that have kept up the excitement all season long. I just can't believe that this one is almost over, though. Seems like it just premiered. The final question of TAR's model-free season is who will cross the finish line first and win the million dollars? Let's explore this a little bit.

ROB & AMBER
Well, this team has certainly been very interesting this season. These Survivors certainly have changed the face of the game. I must admit that Rob (as annoying as he is) is a genius when it comes to the race. He has been very clever along the way, such as escaping the beef roadblock, somehow getting locals to take them everywhere even if they didn't know them from Survivor, and making sure other teams did not get the upper hand. These two have a good possibility of winning this thing. They have certainly done very well throughout the game. Personally, I don't want this team to win. As I mention over and over again, this team does not represent the true ideals of the Amazing Race. These people are famous and have plenty of money. The race is about common, ordinary people with diverse backgrounds proving that they can accomplish much.

RON & KELLY
Ron & Kelly has been a very strong team so far in the race. They have placed very well in each pit stop and perform the tasks without much difficulty. This team has been breaking up recently though. They have fallen prey to many arguments, including the famous POW blunder by Kelly. This has certainly brought down their morale and certainly has not helped them any.

UCHENNA & JOYCE
This is such a great team; they have been awesome to one another and the other racers. They have done reatively well in the race and have come from behind to scare the big dogs. Here me now, I predict that this team will win TAR7. The other two teams are concerned about one another and not this one; Rob proclaims that Uchenna is "stupid." They will not take this team seriously and will end up letting them win. All of this comes down to good luck, though. One mistake or one miracle from God could make or break a team. I have a feeling that this team will go all the way. They certainly are deserving, though! Poor Joyce cut all of her hair off while in India during the fast forward, and the two plan to use the money (if they win) to have another procedure to try to get pregnant. I am personally rooting for this team tonight. We'll just to wait and see though how things turn out tonight. One thing for sure is that it promises to be exciting!

Last Freshman Weekend

Well, the last weekend of my freshmen year has come to a close. This was no ordinary weekend, though. It was filled with much excitment and drama (at least on Saturday). The day started like any other. I got up early and took my 8am final in English 201. I came back and got a much deserved nap for like an hour and a half. I then get a call from Brian that the original Heronians (Brian, Brittany, and myself) are going to make a pilgrimage to our homeland, The Isle of Heron. You that don't know me personally probably don't understand what I'm talking about. My friends & I formed our own independent country called the Isle of Heron on an island in the middle of Cherokee Lake. I hadn't been back since October so I was quite excited to get our inflatable boats back out and make our journey home. Our rowing across the lake, we make our way to the much reduced shoreline of the island (which if you are from TN you will understand why the water level moves drastically). We make our way to pay homeage to Brian's dead goldfish (named Brian of course), and we discover something very interesting. The stone was turned away and the coffin was out of the ground! I don't mean to sound sacrilegious, but Brian had resurrected from the grave! Amen! Hallelujah! We then headed to the other side of the island to reenact the Iwo Jima scene with the US soldiers holding the flag after taking the island from the Japanese. We made our way back through the wilderness taking pictures and looking at branches. As we headed back to the dock in our boats, we decide to use the fancy two-story dock of some rich person's house because I needed to get back and it was much quicker. After making some quick moves through some else's property, we escape being found, but we were so tempted to jump off the top into the lake! We resisted though. After our island trip, I rush to Morristown to enjoy a cookout with the Sunday School class that I have been going to. I am so glad I went because I had so much fun and finally got to really meet the people in my class. After Beth & I left there, we met up with our friends at the Creamery in Jeff City. We had the idea to go swimming at the dam because we had such an urge to go to the dam and how else is one's time better spent at the dam than swimming? Keep in mind, though, that this is like between 10 and 11 before we head that way. We go swimming and have a good time even though some wouldn't get in. As we head back, the real fun starts. I'm riding with Brittany in her smack-daddy of a vehicle. Her car is making some really weird noises and her dashboard suddenly lights up. She doesn't want to drive it all the way back to campus so she pulls over at the next convenient spot, which happens to be J&J Lounge (a bar in the middle of nowhere). Luckily, it was karaoke night! We were all huddled together and soaking wet! Brittany tries to start her car again but now it won't crank. Beth then volunteers to use her AAA membership to get the car towed. We have to wait quite a while for the tower to make their way to the bar. We get kind of scared because these people from the bar with beers in their hands starting making their way to the cars and ask if everything was ok. One guy looked very drunk because he kept asking what was wrong and would rub Jenn Ward's car in a strange manner. He did bring us cupcakes, though. We were a little leary of them and started calling them coccakes; we ate them anyway. The tower finally arrives...with his gun! I'm not sure why he wanted to point that out to Brittany. He really had no reason to show her and the others talking to him. As I understand, he just pulled it out and said that he brought because he heard that we were at a bar and it can get rough sometimes. Brittany's SUV finally gets towed, and we finally make our way back to campus to get some rest! This just a week after the terrible incidents in Knoxville. Wonder what next weekend holds for everyone?

Finals Week: Spring 05

Microeconomics is finally over, which you can tell from the name how fun this class is! I've learned a tremendous amount of markets and their functions; all these years I've taken our economy for granted. It has also been interesting learning the source of these recently spiked gas prices. Glad this class is over! Marginal cost of this class has been my sanity! Time to start packing and go into shut-down mode since all is left is my one-chapter, extremely easy Sociology final! Woot, woot!

Sometimes France Makes Me Sick

Quite honestly, France sometimes makes me want to hurl in the bathroom. I thought this country was suppose to be "democratic" and a champion of good in the world?! I guess not anymore. Evidently, France is now supporting Communist China in its quest to rid the democracy that is thriving in Taiwan. I'm surprised that they have been so open about this; I could understand some secret agreement but this is somewhat unbelieveable. Time for some more freedom fries!

Finals Week: Spring 05

English 201 is gone and over with! This is quite exciting considering that I have only one more semester of an English left for the REST OF MY LIFE!! I am also excited because, as I left, my professor told me that I actually received the highest grade in the class on my research paper. That kind of stopped me in my tracks and she had to pick my chin up off the floor; I couldn't believe it because I thought my paper was awful! Oh well, woot woot! Things are finally winding down!

Finals Week: Spring 05

Another one down! Done with New Testament...forever!! Well, I guess until I study on my own. The most valuable lessons from this class is that Christians do not enjoy a day at Nero's racetrack and some college kid in the day of Brummett had the "audacity" to utter under his breath a confrontation with a Jewish rabbi (if you had Brummett for NT you would giggle at those statements *giggle giggle*). Finals week continues on, and the burdens are dropping like flies! Oh yeah, no work-study today so maybe I will get more sleep tonight. Right now, I am running purely on adrenaline, sugar, and caffeine! Woot! Woot!

Finals Week: Spring 05

World History 2 is done and over with. Its somewhat bittersweet; the class was really hard but I actually enjoyed the class. I have a totally different view of who we are as humans and how we have reached the state that we haved. My eyes have definitely been opened much more than before.

Last Day of Classes

It's finally over! Classes for the semester are over and done with (somewhat at least)! I'm not that excited, though, because that means that finals are on their way. Oh no! I have got so much to do in such a short period of time, and I am so tired (not good combinations!). Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.

An "Amazing" Day

CONGRATULATIONS

PRO WRESTLERS

BETH & MELISSA!

The TN Valley Amazing Race came to a conclusion last night in dramatic fashion (more drama than you could imagine)! The teams started out on the CN campus in front of the campus gates. They then made their way through Jefferson City, Morristown, Dandridge, Kodak, and finished the race in Knoxville. Although it rained, we didn't let that ruin the day. I would love to write you a book on the days events, but I will just list some of the highlights.

DOUBLE YIELDS
Poor Chair Restorers! As a result of a huge alliance, Brian & Brittany got eliminated not once but twice by Adam & Courtney in Morristown and Beth & Melissa in Knoxville. This team ended up wasting a total of 14 minutes, but they made up for it by arriving at the Kodak roadblock as the 3rd team.

CRAZY DRIVING
I heard that there was quite a bit of crazy driving that went on during the race. When people pulled into the detours and roadblocks, I almost feared for my life. They would pull into the parking lots going like 50 or something. The teams even would pull out and almost slam into another team's car. The "official race policy" was that there would be no speeding at all. One team said, though, that they averaged 90 on the interstate! I'm just glad that no one got a speeding ticket or in a wreck; God certainly was on our side!

BIG MACS ARE NOT FUN!
The teams received a bad surprise when they arrived for the roadblock at the Smokies Stadium in Kodak. This is the equalizer of the race where all five teams started at the same position. Doubles Partners Jennifer & Brian had their 30 minute advantage eliminated. During this roadblock, one team member had to run to the end of the road, pick up a big mac, run back, and eat it along with 8 Oreo cookies. A few problems with this. Jennifer is allergic to the caffeine in chocolate and the onions used in the sauce while Courtney doesn't eat beef. Another problem is that these girls are not used to eating such hefty portions of junk food. We made it through although some of the people ended up getting sick.

DOMINATING IN KNOXVILLE
Beth helped boost the Pro Wrestlers during the eating challenge. She crammed down her food and finished well in advance before the other teams. The two then sped off to their final destination, Knoxville. Although they hit some bumpy roads trying to find some landmarks, they consistenly were first throughout the Knoxville portion of the race. They finished the race in downtown at the World's Fair Park. The Doubles Partners and the Schickimicki Girls were in a foot race for the end. The girls found the mat in the park just as Partners did. The Partners, however were closer since they parked their car along the street next to the end. Jennifer & Brian finsihed second after coming back from a fifth placing that was far from the other teams. Carey & Brittany ended the race in third.

AN UNEXPECTED ENDING
As you heard on the audio post last night, Courtney had to go to the hospital room last night. At the next to last landmark, she slipped and fell on her back. When Adam first called me about the accident, he told me that she fell, and I just thought that she had scrapped her knees or something and felt light headed. Beth, Melissa, and Brwyan went to check on her to make sure everything was ok. I then get a phone call that they are taking her to the hospital. After some x-rays, the doctors found that she had a fractured vertebrae. This is not life threating, but she has a bumpy road ahead of her. She is in a lot of pain, and I am sure she would greatly appreciate your prayers! Another problem took place as we left the emergency room. We formed a line of cars leaving the hospital. The parking lots are protected by meter gates (which is crazy to begin with that you have to pay to park at the hospital). When we came in, the exit gate was tore up. We couldn't get it to go up to leave so we try to get gate to go up on the entrance. We get the first car through. We then use that car to signal the weight sensor to raise the gate for the other cars. Before the last car (Brian & Brittany's car) goes through the gate, a security guard comes and takes them into custody for vandalism. This was just a major miscommunication. The exit gate was not broken; we were suppose to go get some token to get out, but we didn't know this. Well, the security guard tells them that they will have to pay $3000 for damages and have to spend a night in the jail (you would have to know these people to realize that it is craziness to tell them they are going to jail). After the security guards finished their screaming and threatening phase (which was totally unprofessional) and they were called Nazis by Courtney's dad, they finally calmed down and somewhat friendly. They told Brittany that they would do nothing to her since she didn't actually touch the gate; they told Brian that the felony charge would probably be dropped and would only have to pay for damages. By the way, we witnessed the exit gate working fine for cars coming in after the incident while the guards were claiming that it was damaged. Pray for Brian, too, that his situation would be resolved.

Overall, the Amazing Race was great! We all had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs and certainly will not be an experience that we will soon forget (especially the end). Pictures coming soon!
