My Treasure Hunt Adventure

Saturday, I experienced my first treasure hunt.  Boy, it sure was an experience!  First, let me get you familiar with the annual event.  Every year during Kingsport's Fun Fest, AFG Glass sponsors a treasure hunt.  Each day during Fun Fest, three clues are given at various times during the day.  These clues lead you to where the AFG medallion is located.  If you find the medallion, you win $100, and the person that finds it on the last day (Saturday) gets a free trip to an amusement park on a private jet.

My neighbor called me last Satuday telling me that her mom saw at my former high school that there were tons of people searching for the medallion there.  So, we get in her car and rush to the school.  The clues that were given out seemed to almost definitely point the finger to the school.  We separated (with the agreement that we split the prize money if we found it) and looked all over that school.  There were people everywhere, too!  I couldn't believe that with all those people there about all day that the medallion hadn't been found already.  My neighbor and I started talking about, and we figured it had to be somewhere else since no one else had found it.  We brainstormed and thought that the clues given could also mean a nearby middle school.  We went there, and hardly anyone else was there.  I felt strong about this place though.  We searched the ENTIRE middle school.  We found it nowhere.  After the third and final clue was given, we were certain that the medallion had to be at the high school.  (We felt it was at the middle school because we had misunderstood someone else when they explained one of the clues to us)  The only thing that bothered us was that people had been there all day and had not found it.  We went home, though.  We were too tired to try searching again.  Both of us were literally black from digging through dirt and weeds looking for the treasure.

Later that night, I run into some guy at another Fun Fest event.  He was also at the high school looking for the medallion.  He had stayed the entire day.  He said that it was found at the school.  He also said that after the third clue was announced that an AFG official directed everyone to a general area were the medallion was located.  The problem I had with this was that the area that it was found at was a place I had looked straight at!  I couldn't believe it!  Oh well, it was a neat experience.  (oh yeah, the winner is pictured above)
