We had a big blackout here in Jeff City and on the CN campus last Wednesday night. I was trying to study for my big test the next day and then boom...it was pitch black. Almost immediately people in the other apartments starting yelling and then went out in the stairwell area and yelled even louder. Our RLC and RA tried to calm everyone down. There is something about a lack of electricity that energizes people. It was kind of eerie; you could hear loud police sirens all around. I looked out over the city and everything was out (except a nearby community). I was stressed that I didn't have any light to study by, but I also kind of felt like kid again marveling at the lack of electricity. We went outside on this clear night and looked at the beautiful stars (our only source of light). We soon found out through out investigative powers that someone had ran their car into a light pole and knocked out the electricity. We thought it would have been funny to run around campus with flaming torches and march on the school's main building, Henderson Hall. We even thought it would be funny if a riot started at the cafeteria and stole all the food (I guess that's not really all that funny but it was at the time). We got in the car and drove around campus to see what was going on. This lack of electricity certainly brought everyone out in droves. This normally quite time on the CN campus was bustling with activity. There was a huge party of football players going on in front of Swann Hall; I heard it got a little crazy with people throwing objects at passing cars. There was a suspicious natural gas tanker sitting all alone across from the SAC (reminder it was after midnight). We also saw Mike Myers walking around. Some girls from Butler had grabbed their computers and went outside on the benches. We also saw people eating food from Hardee's and by the lights of their car. Some people had taken refuge in their cars to study by those small in-car lights; I didn't because I knew (a) it would drive down the battery and (b) would kill my eyes. We also saw some "ethnic violence." People just went crazy! The lights finally came back on at about 30 minutes past one in the morning. I went back to studying and got little sleep. I must say it was a full night!
After venturing around campus and right when the lights came back on:
