TAR8: Pre-race Team Preview

Here are my views regarding five of the teams competing in the Family Edition of the Amazing Race. My views are derived from the profiles listed on the CBS website.

Gaghan Family

This team looks like they might be a moderate to strong team. They have much experience traveling around the world, citing many family vacations overseas and living in South Korea for a while. The only weakness that I possibly see from this team is the age of the two youngest. This family has 12-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. I do predict that the tasks in this TAR will less intense than ones in previous seasons, but these young ones might prove a hindrance to the two adults. The mom fears that the 12-year-old might cause troubles on the race because he going through "typical pre-teen mood swings." He may not be a pleasant addition to this team.

Schroeder Family

This team might become an emotional favority among viewers since they are from New Orleans except I could expect some drama from this team that would lower their popularity. The father of this family openly describes himself as "arrogant and confident." Now, I wouldn't mind the confident part but "arrogant" is not a good adjective for racers. Racers need to be friendly to locals to get much needed assistance. Maybe the team will need to use the mother to communicate to others since she is a public relations director and is used to solving family conflicts. The 17-year-old daughter is a senior in high school and describes herself as the "queen of the family;" I see conflict already! The 15-year-old son is described by the rest of the family as lazy, and that is attribute that does not help teams on the Race.

Aiello Family

This certainly could be an interesting team! This older guy is father-in-law to the other three teammates. The three younger guys will probably be good players of the game; they have some public realtions skills, seem to be somewhat in shape, like to take risks, and "have a sense of humor." The only problem that I could see from this team is the older guy that happens to be 57. He looks really big and could hinder the team in tight foot races. His age, however, could bring more experience and wisdom to the team.

Rogers Family

Another possible emotional favorite with viewers; this team is from Shreveport, LA. This team also looks like it could be very strong. It seems that this family is very competitive and would do anything to win. Team member's ages range from 19 to 46, which I feel is a good mix of older experience and young endurance. The father of this family describes himself as a workaholic and stern so I don't see him giving up easy. Another aspect that looks great for this team is their motto, "We never enter anything unless we intend to win." I see this team, in the post-Race phase, as being a great team. I don't see too much conflict between these team members since the younger ones are out of puberty and look to be in shape. One note of interest, the mom is former Miss Louisiana

Black Family

I don't see this team going all the way. One problem is that they have not traveled that much. It appears there traveling experience has been limited to within the country (which might not prove a problem if reports are true that the Race did not go outside of America much). Also, the team consists of two very young members, one is 11 while the other 8 (the youngest in Amazing Race history). Although these two brothers are doing well in Tae Kwon Do, I fear that their very young age will hinder the older adults (both are teachers) and drag them to the back of the pack.

Check in tomorrow for my views on the other five teams.
