Early indications show that the Iraqi elections are turning out better than most expected. An initial estimate by the Independent Election Commission says that 72% of eligible voters have turned out to the polls despite the threat of violence. As people started walking towards one polling station the group starting shouting in unison, "we have no fear!" Akar Azad said, "This proves that we are now free," as he went to vote in Iraq.
