Yesterday, I reached a milestone in my life. I voted for the first time in my life. How exciting! It was sort of funny. I walk into the building, and it is filled with old people. Well, I get in line, and I finally reach the desk were your eligibility to vote is confirmed. I gave them my driver's license (because I couldn't find my voter registration at home), and the woman is like "you don't look old enough to be voting." I told her "I sure am!" She didn't believe me either until she looked at my birthday on my license. Everyone at that desk was in awe. They couldn't believe that I was old enough. They go to look up my name in the books, and they can't find it. I thought, "oh no, am I really 18?" After about 15 minutes, they finally look up my name in the computer and find it. They hand me the paper that I needed to give to the machine worker and said, "it's nice seeing young people vote; bring your friends down here." I was thought that was a nice, democratic comment even though they were probably just making up for saying that I didn't look old enough. Well, I go up to the elderly, small lady that was working the machines. I give her the paper, and she says, "are you sure you are old enough to vote?" I calmly say that I am with a little giggle. She then started to ask if I had voted before and she stopped when she realized who she was asking this to. She took me behind the voting machine and told me how to vote. It was so funny how she was trying to be influential. As she was describing the machine, she pointed to the heading of the President section. She pointed to the blinking orange light and moved her pointing finger beside Bush's button. She said to vote below each blinking orange light as she was clearly pointing towards Bush. Go old woman! Bush rocks! Well, I voted! Voted Kerry for President (just joking; I would kill myself if I did) and voted for Jenkins for US House Representative (I was much for voting for the crazy Quaker Graham Leonard). Ahhh, the democratic process is great!
congratulations. your first election truly is a mile-marker. good to see kids from my alma mater (CNC) blogging!
