New Life for the Sunsphere

It is back to business with the Sunsphere. After a year of negotiations, developers working with the city of Knoxville is almost ready to start interior renovations of the Sunsphere. That giant golden ball over Knoxvegas will include office space, a public observation deck, a special events area, and a small restaurant that will be open mostly for lunch. There are some obstacles to overcome, though. Utilities for the structure are quite expensive. The developers will be working with some other clients to make the building more energy efficient. Also, parking is very minimal at the site so arrangements will be have to made on busy days. The KnoxNews article also mentioned that the city is about to start working on $1 million worth of "exterior" renovations (does this mean lighting will be installed & we can finally see it at night?). The interior plans still have to be approved, though. I must say that I quite excited that the city is still moving forward with plans for the Sunsphere! Maybe it will have a nice & bright future after all (I wish I could say the same for the Tennessee Amphitheatre). (story here)
