THP Clean-up Continues

The clean-up of THP continued yesterday with the demotion of four Tennessee patrol district captains. The captains that were demoted are Glenn Cantwell of Fall Branch in the Tri-Cities area, Lucious Howard of Chattanooga, Charles Laxton of Knoxville and Joe Nunn of Memphis. Running day-to-day operations, captains are one of the highest ranking officers in the agency. Col. Mike Walker said that these personnel changes were made in the preparation of big changes in the much-corrupt state police. On May 18, the THP will announce new positions made available due to a new promotions policy. I would like to see much change with this group. How can we feel protected if our state police is the most corrupt agency in Tennessee? It might be great that these allegations were made right before the campaign season; maybe the politicians (ex. the Governor up for re-election) will actually fulfill their promises for change. It will be interesting to see how much change actually takes place. On a side note of local police, I no longer feel safe while sleeping at night in Jeff City. I was studying at Perkin's the other night at around 1am. When we left, there were 7 police cruisers in the parking lot and at least 15 officers having a good ol' time in the restaurant. So if you are in Jefferson County late at night, feel free to go any speed limit because all of them are at Perkin's. (THP story here)
