Bryson is In

As predicted, State Senator Jim Bryson announced yesterday his candidacy for the 2006 governor's race. Talk about an up-hill battle! Bryson has virtually no name recognition and little campaign money. He just started into state politics in 2002 and only has $101,000 in spendable funds. Governor Bredesen, on the other hand, has been in politics since the 80s, is an incumbent elected official, and has over $4.4 million of campaign funds. Another sticker for Bryson is that he will not step down from his Senate post until May and cannot raise anymore funds until after the legislative session ends due to state law (neither can Bredesen). Another problem is that Bredesen has been touting some election-year policies and has gained some support from some Republican big-wigs. I'm not sure if Bryson was the best choice for the Tennessee GOP; I have a feeling that we have another four years of Bredesen ahead of us unless something drastic changes. This has to be a great day for the Bredesen campaign staff. (story here)
