Top 10 Photos of 2005: #1

NOW FOR THE

NUMBER ONE

PICTURE OF 2005...

OCTOBER 15

Hurricane Katrina and the devastation that it created was certainly an event of 2005 that we all will certainly not forget soon. Everyone could not help but feel the grief that the people of the Gulf felt; we could not believe the destruction that this one storm caused in a few day's time. When our relief team from Carson-Newman went to help last October, I certainly did not expect what I encountered. The damage was certainly immense, and the images on our TV screens could certainly never give a true sense of the destruction; this is, however, not what surprised me. I was surprised by the determination of the people of the Gulf. Everyone that we met were extremely friendly, and they had such a huge drive to continue their lives and rebuild. If I was in their position, I would just want to move away and not even attempt cleaning up the damage. If I was ever in their shoes, I would hope that I would have the spirit and resolve that they have. I certainly left the Mississippi with a new look on life, and I am grateful to God for giving me that. This picture was taken in the town of Biloxi in front of the local Whataburger (that we visited every night for a milkshake). I was a part of the best team that came from Carson-Newman (even though many of them came from Rogersville); we had the best five days! We laughed, we cried, we gagged, and had some of the best times of our lives. I will never forget those days we spent together helping others in the name of Christ.

I hoped that you have enjoyed my series of the Top 10 Photos of 2005; maybe I will do it again next year. I will soon have all photos that I considered in a photo album, and I hope to have soon a video displaying the year in review (I'm waiting for Google to "verify" it so you can see it in my room if you like).
