Carson-Newman and the town of Jefferson City faces a crisis on the preservation of our history. The home built by one of the founders of Carson-Newman is scheduled to be torn down in three weeks by real-estate company Ryan Co. The president of the Midwest division, Jeff Smith, said that the house was not worth saving. Mr. Smith, I have news for you. The history of our town and our campus lies in the fact that Samuel Isaac Newman decided to start a new college in Jefferson City. This home is deifinitely worth saving; this is our heritage! How can anyone say our heritage is not worth saving? I ask Mr. Smith to look past profit and help us preserve our history. Our campus and our town owe much to Samuel Newman; is this how we are going to repay him by tearing down the house that he built himself? I sure hope not. (story here, sub required)
