"Yay Chicken Island!"

I had the most unbelievable, amazing, spontaneous experience Sunday afternoon. As most of you know, my friends and I have an island on the lake that we claim as our own. We even bought our own boats (I bought a kayak this summer) so that we could go to the island whenever we wanted. Well, I have to now say that it is official that our borders are now expanding; I introduce to you Chicken Island! This isle is not far from the coast of the Isle of Heron (our original land) so we decided that it would be appropriate for us to venture to the neighboring land. This island, however, is only in existence when the water level has gone down due to TVA letting water out of the dam; during other times of the year, you can't see a speck of land. Yesterday, I didn't really have too much to do, and I had planned on the day being very dull and ordinary. Yesterday turned out to be so much more! The three of us got in our boats and paddled all the way to Chicken Island; it was windy yesterday so that was quite a job! When we got on the island, we weren't expecting to find much of anything except a pile of dirt; we, however, found so much more! We were first intrigued by the garden that was growing on the top. Our attention was then diverted by the debris and huge rocks laying on the shore; we assumed that there was a Chicken war that left the island in ruins (to explain the much debris on the shoreline and the bullets we found). We then ventured to the other side of the island and made a HUGE discovery. We noticed a huge collection of bricks and such and started finding tile as we looked through the piles. As we climbed to the top again, we found the most amazing thing: a house! There was an outline of bricks where a house once stood. We figured it was built before the dam was built and had to be destroyed for the lake. We found all sorts of things, such as tile, bricks, glass, a septic tank (that Brittany got into; pictured here), steps leading to nowhere, and many slabs of concrete. For quite a while, we have wanted our own house for the Heron island, but we just couldn't afford the material to build anything. Well, all of that has changed now! We have a bountiful supply of bricks that we are going to use to build our own house (before the waters come back up)! This is exciting times for Heronians, and we can't wait to get our house built! We've already started preliminary construction so we are on our way to having a place of our own! Such a wonderful day with some wonderful friends!

More pictures and a video to come soon!
