The Last Gasp

Sad news for all Southerners (especially the ones that have fond memories of Six Flags Over Georgia)! Remember "The Great Gasp," the parachute ride that lifts passengers 200ft in the air and drops slowly? Well, this Sunday The Great Gasp will be no more; officials from the popular park are retiring the ride after nearly thirty years of service. Talk about some sad times! This was one my favorite rides when I was little. I always enjoyed going to the top and being able to see all over the park and the distant Atlanta skyline. My dad and I had some good times on that ride, and I will surely miss it! I would do anything to be able to experience the ride for the last time this weekend but other business constrains me. If you can get to the park...be sure to go experience The Great Gasp one last time. There is a glimmer of light though. Rumors are that the park is building a huge smack-daddy sized coaster. Officials are calling the replacement "Starship Enterprise," but they aren't releasing any details (parks usually don't like to give many details on new coasters). Farewell, The Great Gasp; I will surely miss you! Story here and here. Rumors on new coaster here.

UPDATE
The Atlanta newspaper has released an image of the buttons that every rider this weekend is suppose to get as they make their last farewell to the popular Great Gasp. I bet some of them will end up on ebay! Story here (bugmenot.com).
