New York has once again fought the odds and is back in the race for the 2012 Olympic games! NYC officials held a press conference Sunday that included details of their new plan for the proposed bids. The Mets will be building a new stadium near Shea due to open for the 2009 baseball season. Infrastructure improvements around the new stadium will be funded by both the city and state. The stadium will then be converted into a 80,000-seat Olympic stadium if the city is chosen to host the games. The original transportation plan has to make no changes, and the stadium will only be 16 minutes from the Olympic Village. The stadium is suppose to be built in what officials are calling the Olympic Park Cluster where many events are already planned so few changes have to be made. There was a question on whether NYC would be allowed to change their original plans since international rules dictate that bid cities cannot make any changes; this was put to rest after an Olympic official told NYC that they would be allowed to make changes after the West Side Stadium was denied by state authorities. I truly do believe that NYC does have a great chance to win the games in 2012. Once again, the city has rallied in face of defeat and solved all problems. They have shown the International Olympic Committee that New York City can do the impossible and can truly host a great games! Good luck, New York! America is depending on you!
