New York's Dying Olympic Dream

The Olympic dream in New York seems to be almost dead now. The New York state Public Authorities Control Board voted to reject the proposal for part public financing for the Olympic stadium that was to be built on the West Side and was suppose to be the centerpiece of New York's Olympic plan. With this rejection, it appears that New York basically has no chance of getting the games in 2012. The IOC would not take a chance of not having an Olympic stadium. This vote comes on the same day that IOC evaluators released their report of the candidate cities in the running for the 2012 games. Of course the group gave Paris top notch ratings for their plan; they gave New York good remarks too but commented negatively on the questionable West Side Stadium. After this vote by the state control board, there is even talk of New York pulling out of the race for the games all together. Mayor Bloomberg said he will be consulting USOC officials about that type of decision. This is certainly a very disappointing day for the thousands that have worked hard over the past few years to make the Olympics a reality in New York. I'm gonna blame on Tana in The Apprentice; if she had only done better with the "NYC2012 Olympic Challenge" we might be telling a different story today. Oh well. I certainly think that the mayor summed it up pretty well at his press conference today: "We have let America down."
