Winning With a "Long Stick"

My competitive spirit is alive and well tonight. Intramural events are sporting events that college students take part in; mostly for students that aren't involved in college sports. This allows students to have fun and to get some exercise. Last fall, as some of you remember, I took part in the intramural Smoky Mountain Hike. Tonight, I took part in the Family Feud intramural event based on the age-old TV game show. A bunch of teams got involved, and I was of course involved with one family called "the Chupacrabras" (a strange sci-fi movie that is an inside joke in our circle of friends and translates into "sheep eaters"; weird, I know). This team included myself, Jennifer, Brittany, Preston, and Adam. All of us were extremely nervous when we began. The first team we nailed and won each round. The next team we faced was a bunch of RAs from one of the girls residence halls. We only won one of the rounds and lost that game. We were highly disappointed, but we weren't out. This was a double elimination game and had to move into the losers bracket. We didn't let this get us down; we moved on. The next teams we ran into we obliterated. We did great! We had some great moments too that will go down into the history books of our friendship. One of the surveys was "what do knights use when they joust?" It came down to me, and I thought of what I found out later to be called a lance or the thing that the knights use to knock the other off the horse. I couldn't think of the word so I said a "stick." The host in our room debated with the judges and asked me to be more specific. I sat there and thought and said "ummmmmm, a long stick?" Everyone bursted out in laughter! It was so funny! Well, we continued on and made it to the semi-finals and won over a bunch of blond girls that wore matching red shirts and black, tight pants. We then advanced to the championship game. We were so excited because we didn't expect to make it that far! To our surprise, however, we found out that we were facing the group of RAs that destroyed us in our second game. This means that we had to play twice if we won, which we did! We were so excited! The second round of the game was neck and neck. This fierce competition was interrupted by another great answer by yours truly. The survey question was "what is an outdoor object that people collect?" The obvious answers were things, such as bugs and sea shells. When it came down to me, I couldn't think of anything. I had a time limit of 10 seconds so I didn't know what to do so I said the first thing that came to my head. What did I say? "Trees!!" (yes, with much excitment!) I don't know about you all, but I collect trees from all over the world. Such a great and relazing hobby! Of course, everyone broke down in laughter again. The neck-to-neck competition continued on. The winner was to be determined by the last survey question, which was "what do you need to go water skiing?" The other team had the control and answered three of the four responses correctly, which was skis, a boat, and a life jacket. They couldn't get the last response, though. They answered obvious responses like water and a driver, but they were wrong and got three strikes. It came down to our family, "the Chupacrabras." It all came down to us. If we responded correctly, we would win the game. If not, it all went to the RAs. We couldn't think of anything. What else do you need to go water skiing? We had no clue. The host of the championship game started counting down "5...4...3...2..." Then, all of a sudden, Jennifer recommended a swim suit. I thought this was stupid, and we gave it away. But, we didn't have anything better, and we had to give an answer that moment. We yelled it out and survey says..."NUMBER 3!!!" WE HAD WON!!! We were so excited! All of us bursted out yelling! We jumped out of our chairs and gave big hugs to everyone. It was so exciting! I won an intramural event! All of us will get our picture in the annual and got awesome tshirts that were titled "intramural champions." A tshirt that thousands of students on campus desire to have, and we have them! So awesome! Such a great night!
