News Roundup

I know it has been a while, but here are some news stories.

Bush is on Wall Street today touting the 3.5% growth in the economy last quarter, which is much more than expected.

The Senate has approved a minimum wage hike as long as short-term tax relief is provided to solve a long-term problem. Sometimes I feel like the US is moving towards becoming a socialist society. The government doesn't need to be telling us what to do. I'm a firm believer in letting the market take control. Maybe a little hike to say $6.25 an hour would be appropriate, shall I say a bit more decent, but not all the way to over $7 an hour. What will that create? Higher prices (because the companies will not foot the bill for higher wages) and a loss of jobs for low-payed Americans (if businesses don't have the money, out go the workers). Seems like Congress just wants to kill the economy that has been growing tremendously.

Iraq has become a battleground for vying US & Iranian forces.

This is a bad time to be living in Venezuela since Chavez just got complete control of the country today.

Good news for the Sunsphere and Tennessee Amphitheater in Knoxville. The city council has just approved renovations for those two landmarks. Work is expected to be done by next fall.
