This is what Senator John Kerry had to say to undergraduate students in California this week:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Talk about coming at the wrong time with mid-term elections next Tuesday and with the Democrats fighting to the nail to take control of Congress. It is a dead-heat race all across the country. It certainly can't be good that one of the leading members of the Democratic party would come out with such a remark so close to election day. In an semi-apology, he said this:
"As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: My poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and [was] never intended to refer to any troop."
I don't know how someone could misinterpret his "joke." It is pretty obvious he is referring to soldiers in Iraq; what other Americans are "stuck" in Iraq right now? I guess we'll have to wait and see how bad this hurts Democrats. (story here)
