A Victory for Katharine

Of course Katharine McPhee was not the winner of American Idol, but she was the victor in her personal battle with bulimia nervosa. Katharine told People magazine that she had suffered with the disease since high school. She was extremely concerned about her body image; she would vomit up to seven times a day, would starve herself, and exercise to the extreme. Then came American Idol. She auditioned and made it through to the Hollywood round. She then decided that she needed help; she feared that her constant vomiting was damaging her vocal cords, and she wanted the best shot possible. She entered group and individual therapy for six days a week for three months. Now, she is bulimia free. Although she didn't win the pop star competition; I think she won an even better prize: self-control and confidence. (more here)
