It's Good Enough

Bob Krumm has some good reasons why a state-wide minimum wage increase over the Federal mark is not a good idea. This is just economic fact; we should not give into those lawmakers that just want to look good. (post here)

  1. You know that's all well and good, but as someone who worked for the lowest minimum wage this summer (and most likely will again next summer) I have to say that you seriously can't make much of a decent living off of $2.15 an hour. Sure I get tips, but customers don't seem to understand that tipping is really how I make my money. Leaving a $2 tip on a small check is well and good, but at the end of the night I go home with $2 from say, 10 tables for six-eight hours of work. Anyone else see the problem here? Minimum wage really needs to be increased in my opinion.

  2. I would argue that it makes more economic sense to increase minimum wage on the national level than on the state level (which is what some TN lawmakers are wanting to do). Why would a company want to locate here when they can locate somewhere else that doesn't dictate to companies wage rates beyond the national rate?

  3. But then we would have to compete with areas that have a higher standard of living (which would benefit us) and those that have lower standards of living (which would bring the wage down).
