Exxon Mobil has announced today that it has earned record profit for the 4th quarter: 10.7 billion dollars! They also have a year's profit worth 36.1 billion dollars (a 31% increase from last year)! That is the most amount earned in quarterly and annual profits in US history. This income amounts to $1146 per second, which is enough to pay for an average American vehicle to be driven 10,294 miles. (story here) I don't know about you, but I really believe that the gas companies have really gotten out of hand. Why are we paying so much just so that company heads can roll in the billions?! They have certainly taken advantage of our dependence on gasoline, and they don't hesitate to make us pay more. Ironically, a report came out today about the future of gasoline alternatives. One such promising technology that has progressed more than I had thought includes ethanol. (story here) We certainly need change because this system is not working at all!filed under: business, news
