TAR8/EP5: Racers Go Global!

EPISODE 5
The families finally get to leave the country. They departed New Orleans for Panama! They engaged in boat and bus races with each other (some getting too involved in the races and passing their destination). They had a detour that included finding instruments around town and watching for fake, plastic birds in the forest. Surprisingly, the bird task proved to be the fastest (way to go, Weavers!). We also saw the first and only Fast Forward in the Race where the Paolos bungee jumped off huge cranes in the Panama Canal. The roadblock included hitting a baseball and getting on base. This leg also ended as one of the first non-elimination legs, and the Godlewskis were ready!
THE PAOLO MOMENTUM
Can you believe how far the Paolo have gotten? When the Race started, I was certain that this family would never make it this far! They finished second in the last leg and then finished first in the leg (and won another trip to Panama). True, the Fast Forward last night certainly did help them out a lot, but a first place winning can go far in giving the team confidence in winning it all. Usually, however, first place confidence builders are better towards the end of the Race when the finish mat is in sight. I really don't see this family winning it all, but they might have a good chance of holding on for a little bit more. However, we did see in Season 7 that Ray & Deana were eliminated the leg right after using the Fast Forward. I do like seeing this team, though. I don't want them to win, but I think they had a nice comic relief.
GAGHAN'S IN TROUBLE
What is the deal with the Gaghans? They started out such a strong team, but they have gradually declined in ability as the Race has gone on. Last night, they got way behind. Their drivers certainly did not want to cooperate with them; the driver of their boat wanted to go pick up some more passengers before taking the Gaghans to their destination. Boy, would I be ticked! The driver, however, decided against picking up more people first. Also, this team has been plagued with bad choices. The parents made the kids try to play cards in the last episode's detour and eventually had to switch to the log-cutting task. They should have also picked the bird watching task instead of the instrument pick-up since it proved to be the quickest (I admit, however, that I thought the instrument task would be much easier). A huge and stupid mistake that they made last night was to wait and see if the Paolo family finished the Fast Forward or not. You should have not waited. Once a team goes for a Fast Forward, it is very unlikely that they will back out. The team knows that if they back out now, they are at a huge disadvantage in that they are way behind everyone else in moving to the next location. The Gaghans should have waited; they should have moved on immediately when they saw that the Paolos were trying it out. Rob & Amber discovered this in TAR7 when Ray & Deana finished the Fast Forward while the two waited. I love the Gaghan family, and I think it is so funny how the kids try to talk all grown up and stuff! They did, however, run into good luck when they were able to finish the baseball roadblock before the Godlewski family.
By the way, so glad that the racers are finally out of America!
The Godlewskis are ready for the next leg after surviving a non-elimination leg. They have all their clothes thanks to a clever trick but all their money is gone will not be given any for the next leg.
