2005 Homecoming Weekend

I do that this is the first weekend in a while that I did not post at all over the weekend. I do feel horrible; sorry! I try to be better from now on out. I have been busy/lazy so I have an excuse I guess. Last Saturday was Homecoming here at good ol' CN. Not only was it Homecoming, but it was also the first game this football season that the team had a game on campus and in the new Burke-Tarr Stadium. I must say that this structure is very nice and is certainly much better than the dilapidated building that we played in for the last few decades. I do have a little concern though. Although I love the new stadium and I think that we surely needed a new place, it amazes me about donations and friends of the college. They easily raised 4 million dollars in less than a year's time to pay for a stadium that we use for 5 games a year and graduation in May. However, it has taken us years to get even near having enough donations (and money from the college itself...the stadium was solely funded by donations) for much needed new buildings on campus. The Family and Business buildings are needed badly yet we can't find enough alumni and friends that have the slightest desire to donate money for those causes. It's kind of sad picture of the state of our campus; friends of the college are much more interested in the sports but don't give a flip about the academics. Oh well. "Carson-Newman how I love thee."
