Grandmaw Shoots Back

This grandmother from New York is suing Rock Star Games, maker of the controversial Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. (story here) She is saying that the company undertook "false advertising, consumer deception and unfair business practices." She says that she would have not bought the video game for her grandson if she had known that the rating of the game was going to be changed to "adult only." If you don't know the details behind the story, San Andreas was originally rated "mature" but was changed to "adult only" after sexual scenes were discovered and the likes of Hillary Clinton blew some whistles in Washington. Talk about a stupid lawsuit! Sure, the game does contains many violent ways to kill people, allows gamers to steal all the cars they want, and contain porn-like scenes. The problem is that this company did not deceive anyone on the content of their product. Sure, it is inappropriate, and I wouldn't ever buy such a game. This company, however, has never kept it a secret from anyone that their games contain many adult-related sequences. Ask any teenager or watch any of their commercials and you will see that the gaming company never hid the fact that much violence and gore is a part of it. It's kind of funny that this grandmother didn't have any problem with her grandson playing a game filled tremendous violence, but once she found out their was sexual content she had a hissy-fit. Does this show what our society is truly like?...Kill as many people as you want but don't dare say the "three-letter s-word."

I know what you mean! I was in Blockbuster the other day and this woman was pitching a fit over the game that she had let her son rent just the other day. I was kinda like, "...wow."
ReplyDeleteIt's insane what people pick and choose to complain about.
