Discovery Finally Flies

After a very long departure, NASA is back in action. Discovery blasted off this morning about 10:39 with no problems. CNN said on TV that the faulty sensor was confirmed by officials to be working this morning right before liftoff. This truly is a great day for our nation and our resolve. This shows the world that we do not give up; we will work hard until the job is finished. There are some reports that debris was spotted falling off of the shuttle as it left Earth's atmosphere. NASA officials were unsure what the debris was but made sure to point out that they cannot totally prevent breakage during the liftoff process. Hopefully, these brave astronaunts will be able to return safely. It's probably news producers looking for anything to beef up the shuttle coverage. Hopefully we will be able to finish the International Space Station before the 2010 deadline to retire the shuttle fleet. After that, who knows what the future holds. There is talk about the "new space fleet" to come after the retirement. Bush himself talks about building a moon base and future Mars missions. We probably won't see the end of NASA for quite some time now.
