New York officials unveiled the redesigned Freedom Tower that is suppose to replace the former World Trade Center site. Architects had to go back to the drawing board after the NYPD had concerns about the tower being too close to the road, which would make it more vulnerable to truck bomb attacks. I must say that I like the new design much more than the old. The former plan had much empty space at the top that would contain wind turbines to help power the building. I thought it was quite silly to have so much empty space for a bulding where "empty" should be the last thing on your mind. It looks as though the new design has taken away all the empty space and filled it in; one thing for sure is that the tower will be narrower than originally planned. The new tower also includes a spire at the top that will emit a solid beam of light at night. A thumbs up for the architects on this new design. It will be the same height, though, at 1776 ft.

As a future architect who wants to specialize in GREEN Design, that is designing selfsustainging buildings I do not like the new design of the Freedom Tower. The original design was unique and leading edge in the new world. If you have been to New York there is already a tower that looks like the new design located across the road from the News Week tower by cental park.
ReplyDeleteWhy do a copy cat design? I understand that it might have been too close to the road, but keep the same concept. The original is much nicer. Sorry, just my thoughts.

the new design has nothing interesting at all is just "another building" in N.Y. how sad
ReplyDeletei think that it going to be great,the only problem is that it might get blown up/crashed in to again so its a no win situation,you either A build a new one and show you wont be beaten,and risk it crashed in to again or B not build a new one and show that you have been beaten.but still i think its a good idea to build it again to show that they wont be beaten even though they are taking the risk.
