Pondering 2004

On New Year's Eve, I started to ponder the events that had shaped my year in 2004. I came to the conclusion that last year was a pretty good. So many wonderful events have taken place. It somewhat saddens me to put those many great memories behind me. I traveled to Louisville with my Key Club to attend the annual K-T District Convention. All of us that went had such a great time! We danced on an old-fashioned boat down the Ohio River, saw the Louisville Slugger museum and plant, and saw the birthplace of KFC in Corbin. Many great things also happened at the convention site: I was able to help my advisor win best advisor of the year, one of our member's took her post as Lt. Governor, and our club won 9 awards! Simply amazing! My reign as the club's President also came to a close since I was graduating. The banquet was extremely sad for me and broke down in tears. It was hard to let go of my club; I had built a family with these people, and I had to give it up. My years at Volunteer High School also came to a close in 2004. I did this with both fear and excitment. I was looking forward to moving on, but I was afraid of what my future held. My graduation ceremony was filled with much excitement and energy; it felt more like a political rally rather than a graduation. I gave the unofficial prayer to the people in attendance, which was a great experience. I graduated with "highest honors" and with a 4.0 GPA (we had an unweighted scale). It was so sad to say farewell to the people that I had grow close to, but it was something that I had to do. My graduation luau after the ceremony was so much fun! I will always remember it! The summer proved to be a pretty good one. My friends (Jonathan, Amy, Holly, and Karen) and I made monthly visits to Dollywood. We always had a great time! Our June visit proved to be one of the best considering that we actually got to see Dolly in person! That was so awesome to see one of my idols in person! I also got to see Casting Crowns perform at Meadowview in Kingsport, which was another great summer experience. In August, my family and I took a long trip to Texas. We got to go to all the great Texan cities: Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, and Dallas. We also got to go inside Mexico for a few hours, which officially expanded my list of visited foreign countries (now two). A week after our great trip, I started college. I can't believe it that I have finally reached this milestone in my life. I thought it would take forever, but it took no time at all. I was very nervous, but it turned out to be a great experience. I made some pretty good friends, and I have been having a lot of fun. At college, my friends and I have been doing many things to keep us occupied, such as boating, camping out, watching many movies, watching The Amazing Race and other reality shows, and having many study sessions. After a year of pastoring, Preacher Huff was ousted from our church after much abuse and neglect that he gave us. Now, we are in search for another. We definitely need your prayers! Coming home for weekends proved to be great times. I spent time again with my great family and my wonderful friends. These weekends have shown me what truly is important in life, and I have been very grateful for these times. Christmas was a nice time. I got to be with my family once again, and I had a lot of fun with parties and a trip to Dollywood again with the original group. After experiencing such a major (with graduation and starting college) and exciting year, I will certainly miss the wonderful times that I have had with my friends and family, but I look forward to 2005. I'm not sure if it will top 2004, but I am willing to try.
