Jammin' in the Winter

Six great Christian artists made their way to Knoxville on Sunday to take part in Winter Jam 2005; I, of course, was there to greet them to Tennessee. A bunch of us from Carson-Newman made the short journey to the Civic Coliseum in downtown and arrived an hour and a half before the doors opened. What we didn't realize (stupid us) was that we would be waiting out in the cold that amount of time. We just wore basic winter clothing, nothing appropriate for long time exposure to the freezing temperatures. It was so funny! All of us were frozen! We had to keep asking each of other if our noses were running because we couldn't feel them. We had to huddle together to keep each other warm; we definitely did some "bonding" through this experience. We were hoping that they would open the doors a little sooner, but they of course didn't. They opened them at 5 o'clock exactly. It was good, though, that we got there when we did. Shortly after we arrived, the line was very long; it made a circle around the huge coliseum. Once we got inside, all of us were glad to be alive, but it did take us a while to dethaw. I didn't think that I would get warm, but I was sweating before the night was over with. Much more people showed up than they originally thought; they had to take down the back drops so that people could sit in the seats behind the stage. Despite the huge crowd, the concert was great! Great artists, such as Overflow, Rachel Lampa, Building 429, Newsong, Tait, and Toby Mac, came to K-town. The awesome part was that the cost of admission was only $10, such a great price! We just sat in our seats for the first few artists; I think because we were just tired from standing out in the cold. We got in the act, though, with Building 429 with their hits "The Space Between Us" and "Glory Defined." It was great dancing along with these great singers. The wonderful thing about these people is that they can be both entertaining and serious. All of them had a great message. They said that 55 people got saved last night after being led to Christ by a Newsong singer. Isn't that great?! That made the night worth it! We also got to rock some great secular songs, such as "Rocky Top" and "Sweet Home Alabama." These Christians certainly know how to have a great time! Things got a little different though with Toby Mac. If you don't know anything about him, he is kind of into this urban Christian thing. He was great though, and it was cool to see him in concert. My favorite was Tait with great songs, such as "God Can You Hear Me?" and "Lose This Life." Such a wonderful night! We wrapped up the night at the Waffle House and drove back to campus to the tune of "American Pie."
