Isn't the democratic process great? Not thinking about who won, it is wonderful that we, the citizens, have a say in who rules over us! I just turned 18 last May, and this is my first election. WOW! It has been great! I am so glad that I had a say this election. It was just so exciting being able to vote. I guess I am now an official adult (according to federal law). The night was something special to me. This was the first time that I had an actual say so in how our country is ran. It was awesome! At 6:30, I laid everything I was doing aside and turned on the TV and people started to gather in my room in preparation for the first poll closings at 7pm. I even had handy graphs, maps, and electoral vote scorecards at my diposal to help me keep everything clear. After that point, I was glued to the TV. I never really did leave the room much at all. It was cool seeing the votes come in for my canidate. I did get a little antsy when they delayed announcing Virgina, a long voting Republican state, and when many Democrat leaning states were projected for Kerry at the 8pm poll closing hour. The rest of the night was tooth-and-nail with excitement, especially since they held back projecting many "swing" states. I started to get happy when I noticed that Bush's states from 2000 were going back to him. Although the state projections were slow coming in, I was proud of the turn around that the news networks had made since the 2000 disaster. They totally changed the way that they reported the election results, and they were accurate. It got confusing, though, when I started to switch between networks. All of them were so different from each other on the electoral vote prediction. I thought CNN and apparent Democrat Wolf Blitzer was so funny! On election night, they were getting so frustrated when it looked as Bush had taken the vote. You should have see Wolf when the pundits said that it looked like Bush had won even before all the states were called. Even though the other networks were calling Ohio (a HUGE swing state) for Bush, CNN would not. Even after Kerry had conceded the election, CNN was still holding out for Ohio a day later. NBC was also funny. When they projected Ohio a victory for Bush, you should have seen Tom Brockaw. You could tell he was upset! He like slammed down his papers and with a long face said, "well, this election is all but over!" Well, I must say that my first time has been great! I am so glad the man with morals is going back into office.
